Nebraska requires homeschooling families to submit annual reports. There are state required subjects. The NE government does not conduct any state assessments of homeschoolers.

Very few states have laws that prevent parents from homeschooling their children. Nebraska does not prohibit parents from homeschooling based on their legal or criminal history. Only two states, Pennsylvania and Arkansas, prohibit some parents based on their criminal history or by someone living in the home.

There is no required level of education for parents in Nebraska to educate their children at home.

Nebraska State Standards and Common Core

Nebraska applied for a grant in the Race to the Top competition and even promised to adopt the Common Core in its application. However, when its RTTT application was denied, Nebraska also opted to create its own new mathematics and ELA standards and write its own standardized assessments.

Parents must “maintain a sequential program of instruction designed to lead to basic skills in the language arts, mathematics, science, social studies, and health.”
