Oregon requires families to report their decision to homeschool only one time. OR does not require that home educators take specific subjects or classes. Oregon policy for homeschool assessment is as follows: Periodic assessment with no ramifications. Parents are not required to submit scores to the district unless they are requested.

Very few states have laws that prevent parents from homeschooling their children. Oregon does not prohibit parents from homeschooling based on their legal or criminal history. Only two states, Pennsylvania and Arkansas, prohibit some parents based on their criminal history or by someone living in the home.

There is no required level of education for parents in Oregon to educate their children at home.

Oregon has left most of the implementation of the Common Core in the hands of school districts and teachers.

Common Core Implications

Homeschoolers must participate in state-mandated testing after 3rd, 5th, 8th, and 10th grades. Results must be sent to the educational service district if requested.

None. Special Note: If students do not achieve at least a 15th percentile on standardized achievement tests taken after grades 3, 5, 8, and 10, the superintendent will initiate an intervention process.
