Home Geography for Primary Grades

This short, simple reader was intended to be used by tutors and teachers for younger students. I would guess the reading level at around 3rd grade.

Topics include basic landforms, the scientific processes of weather and geographical formation, and some things that the land produces.

This is not a geography reader that will give understanding of maps or countries, but rather the lay of the land and some ideas about our earth.

The first work, then, in geographical instruction, is to study that small part of the earth’s surface lying just at our doors. All around are illustrations of lake and river, upland and lowland, slope and valley. These forms must be actually observed by the pupil, mental pictures obtained, in order that he may be enabled to build up in his mind other mental pictures of similar unseen forms.
