Look what Homeschooler & Olympian Laurie Hernandez has been up to
You'll be hard-pressed to see Laurie Hernandez without a smile. That's one of many reasons why Olympic gymnast, and Dancing with the Stars champion, Laurie Hernandez was (and still is) a fan favorite.
She's had a year off from competition (during the Rio Olympics she won an individual silver medal and a team gold medal in Rio), but that doesn't mean she's been idle. In fact, if you follow her on Instagram you know she's been on-the-go non-stop!
Recently, Hernandez collaborated with the American Egg Board to launch a nation-wide search for "America’s most incredible kids." This partnership is accompanied by a speaking circuit, where Hernandez talks about her New York Times best-selling book.
It is increidble how quickly books are published these days. Read her story in her own words: I Got This: To Gold and Beyond.
If you're in Charlotte, mark your calendars for this Sunday, the 27th! Hernandez's speaking circuit includes the Southern Women’s Show at the Charlotte Convention Center. (Tickets are $12 at the door or $10 online.)
The Charlotte Observer got an exclusive scoop:
“Being able to go on flights and to have long car rides, it’s an incredible experience – I’m blessed to have all of that – but it can definitely get a little bit tiring,” says Hernandez, who is starting her senior year as a home-schooled student in New Jersey this month but isn’t yet sure when she’ll return to serious gymnastics training. “I wouldn’t be surprised if most of my exercise right now was running through airports.”

While at home Hernandez saw a picture she liked and decided to re-create it with her own unique spin. While she worked she wove in the lyrics from a Justin Timberlake song.
I was listening to music as I was painting, and there are a few songs that I’m just like, ‘Wow, I really like the way I feel when I hear that song,’ so I painted accordingly. Everything has beauty, whether it’s gymnastics or painting or anything like that. You can always find beauty in something. I guess that’s what I was trying to get across. ... I definitely loved doing art class as a kid – that was the one place that I got to really get messy – but I’ve been trying to do artsy stuff my whole life.
And she's been able to visit her grandmother, no matter where she might be! What a wonderful celebration!
WOW! Does that look fun or what!
This summer she visited a gymnastics summer camp in Pennsylvania, where she joined them for a 'silk' picture. She confessed the silk isn't as easy to transition to as you might expect, "I could barely hold myself up there!"

BEST OF ALL, she's been a role model to hundreds of young girls.
