The story of Goody Two Shoes is a variation of the Cinderella story. The term is often used to convey an unusually virtuous person.
Goody Two Shoes tells the story of Margery Meanwell who is so poor she only has one shoe. When a rich gentleman buys her a complete pair she is so ecstatic that she tells everyone she has “two shoes”.
There are several versions of the story. The original dates back to 1765 in London.
