Ten Boys and Girls From Dickens
In this small volume there are presented as complete stories the boy-lives portrayed in the works of Charles Dickens.
Charles Dickens was a loyal champion of all boys, and underlying his pen pictures of them was an earnest desire to remedy evils which he had found existing in London and its suburbs.
And so he wrote his novels with the histories in them which affected the London public far more deeply, of course, than they affect us, and awakened a storm of indignation and protest.
Short biographies of characters from Dickens’ novels
Each of these two books takes 10 of Dickens’ characters and tells the story of their childhood (the stories don’t go past adolescence) in a brief chapter.
These would be great alongside a history study of the time period, or as an introduction to Dickens for children not yet ready for his full works.
Each of the books have striking pencil drawings to go with most of the chapters – you can click on them in the HTML version on gutenberg.org and download the full size images.
